Cahyali

Astronomy of Cahyali

Cahyali orbits the star Ayat.

There are three moons of Cahyali, the closest and brightest one is named Dipha, the second brightest is named Leine. These two moons rise in the East and set in the West. The farthest and dimmest moon is named Fyr and rises West and sets East, in a highly elliptical orbit. Fyr has its own small potato-shaped satellite, named Myn that tumbles around in a quick eclectic orbit. Astronomers of Cahyali predict Fyr and Myn to eventually tumble out of Cahyali's gravity well in a hundred years or so. The three moons are a symbol for Seherine (the Cahyalian name for At'ena). The Seherine Seers of Cahyali often use the moons and their positions as signs.

There are two other visible planets in the Ayat System. The brightest is a yellow-green gas giant named Ythern. The other is a purple-blue gas giant with faint rings named Pthri. Between Cahyali and the gas giants lies a thick belt of asteroids that astronomers believe could not form into a planet due to the gravitational forces of Ythern.

Notable Geography

Cahyali’s Revenge: This oceanic ridge spans north to south. The massive fault features undersea volcanoes, frequent natural disasters, and intense winds that take frigid eastern air from Pthora, warms it with intense geothermal vents, and deposits it on the western coasts of Dahabu.

Zhùfu Reef: a large coral reef off the coast of Ruefang, its colorful peaks can be seen from the surface of the water

Countries of Cahyali

[[settings:cahyali:pthora|Pthora]]

Located in the far-western polar regions of the continent, Pthora is a hyper-militarized dictatorship, led by a single High General operating out of their Winter Office. Much of Pthora's territory is uninhabited, with vast stretches of icy tundra holding unknown threats and treasures. Populated by mostly dwarves, humans, and a few stranded Kleemudor lizards, Pthora mainly speaks the language of Pthoran (Dwarvish). Its national symbol is a vulture.

[[settings:cahyali:ruefang|Ruefang]]

Ruefang lies upon a crescent-shaped landmass in the southeast. With dynastic and martial tradition stretching back centuries, it is currently ruled by the oligarchy of the Five-Commission Council. Ruefang has struggled with natural phenomena and strange climate caused by the country's unstable leyline system for a while, but has recently made advancements in recovering. Its population consists of elves, lizards of various sorts, and some beasthide orcs. Ruefang's national language is a dialect of Dahabi (Elvish). Its national symbol is an eastern dragon.

[[settings:cahyali:leyork|Ley'Ork]]

In the heart of Cahyali is Ley'Ork, the most technologically advanced nation of the continent. Fiercely capitalist and semi-democratic under the rule of the Harena Trade Union, the gears of Ley'Ork turn towards the future at any cost. Its landmass is massive, encompassing temperate forests to the north and baking desert to the south. Its population is metropolitan; a melting pot of various races and backgrounds. Though it has no official language, many within its borders speak Saedic (Paroli). Its national symbol is a six-winged dragonfly.

[[settings:cahyali:splint|Splint]]

Nestled between Ley'Ork and Ruefang is the small country of Splint - which is less of a country than a hotbed of tensions between various groups, with opposing goals and ideologies save for one thing: they want Ley'Ork out of their territory. Splint is subtropical and arid in places, with stunning natural sights. Its population is a melting pot, as many Splint residents are refugees from various places. Its national symbol is an eagle holding broken chains.

Some say that beneath Blake's Cove in the center of Splint lies a mysterious underground world...

Religion in Cahyali

Cahyali worships the same pantheon as Jaernians do, but have ascribed different names for each of the gods. Newcomers to Cahyali will often be met with confusion if they refer to “At'ena” or “Neptune”, and many will shun those who worship these names as heretics, unless it is made clear that they are in fact the same deity that they worship. The structures of their Churches are incredibly similar to the structure found on Jaern, with minor differences. Overall, the gods and priesthoods have less sway on Cahyali than on Jaern.

Below is a list of the Cahyalian names of the Jaernian Gods, with the names of their priesthoods in parentheses:

  • Anubis - Anpu (Anpuans)
  • At'ena - The Lady Seherine (Seherites)
  • Isis - Aset (Asetites)
  • Neptune - Vahrun (Vahrunians) Cahyalians see Vahrun as not only the god of the sea, but of the wind. They believe that Vahrun resides in the deepest depths of Cahyali's Revenge.
  • Orus - Arakh (Arakhites)
  • Mishra - Aremakh (Aremites)
  • Osiris - Julius (Julians)
  • Ra - The Dawn (Priests of Dawn or Dawn-Bringers)
  • Rudri - The Dusk (Dusk Priests). Whether there are any Dusk Priests still in Cahyali is debatable, as none have been seen for centuries.
  • Tarus - Hestapheous (Hestaphites)
  • T'or - Marutuk (The Maru)

The three non-native Jaernian gods do not have differing names in Cahyali religion. It is unknown what in their history might have influenced this convergence.

  • Almar (Almarians)
  • Vormaxia (Vormaxians)
  • Zepherin (Zepherinites)

Factions of Cahyali

There are five prominent factions in Cahyali: the Oxis Alliance, The Cerulean Moon, the Harena Trade Union of Cahyali (HTUC), The Kinland Order, and the Ystervuis.
