Priests

Divine magic is an oddity. Unlike elemental magic, which comes from channeling the powers of the natural world, or psionic magic, which comes from channeling one’s inner power, divine magic comes from channeling the power of other sentient beings. More specifically, the magical abilities are granted and powered by higher beings known to some as gods or deities. While the multiverse has its own series of deities, the gods who most commonly interact with the planes of Jaern and Cahyali are the 13 Divines. At first this may seem similar to a warlock. The major difference between the two is that a warlock gains their power from a deal, while priests gain them from devotion to their god.

Priesthoods

Each priesthood worships a different god with a different personality, different aspects, and different domains. As such, each priesthood and its culture are shaped around the worship of said deity. Priesthoods are as varied as the gods they worship.

Almarians

Almarians worship Almar, the god of the soul, energy, magic, and trickery. As such, Almar’s magic allows them to contact lost souls, see and manipulate the souls of others, restore the energy and magical abilities of their allies, and shape magic around them. Almarians look to sheperd souls to their proper afterlives, especially lost souls, allowing them to pass on and continue the cycle of life. They believe souls are sacred and ethereal, a piece of reality beyond any mortals’ ability to truly grasp, and as such believe they should be treated with proper respect. To learn more about Almar and his worshippers, you can go here.

Anubians

Anubians worship Anubis, the god of the dead, of funerals, and of final judgement. Anubians have a great respect for the dead, seeing it as a sacred stage in the cycle of life. As such, they tend to be against necromancy and the damage to an undead’s soul it causes. Anubians can raise their own undead, without causing damage to the soul. They are also known to inspect souls and deliver judgement to them, and also provide aid to the suffering, and provide funeral rites. In other words, some Anubias work as dealers of death, while others may work as simple gravediggers. The adventuring life tends to favor one over the other, though both are possible to find exploring. To learn more about Anubis and his worshippers, you can go here.

At’enites

At’enites worship the goddess A'tena, the goddess of time, fate, and wisdom. Her priests usually see themselves as the harbingers of fate, in some way. Many use their magic to practice the art of divination. Some can control short bursts of time and relativity, and even shape the luck of others. Finally, their spells can be used to grant wisdom to others in a time of need. At’ena can see through the different timelines, and does her best to try and guide both her priests and the world at large to the best possible outcomes. To learn more about At’ena and her worshippers, you can go here.

Isisites

Isisites worship Isis, the goddess of life, family, health, and peace. Being peace-loving folks, many Isisites want to help people intrinsically. They are some of the best healers and doctors across the multiverse. Many of them strive to maintain diplomacy and prevent fighting where they can, plenty are pacifists in their own right. When a plague breaks out, Isisites will be on the front lines trying to ease the suffering of those still alive. To learn more about Isis and her worshippers, you can go here.

Empanians

Empanians worship Empani, the god of knowledge and the mind. Worshippers of Empani wish to bring education to the masses, help people hone skills, and collect any and all knowledge they can. As such, Empanians have abilities that allow them to document and explore the world around them better. They can access the minds and memories of those around them, making them comparable to telepaths in some regards. There are two primary schools of thought for Empanians. Those following the Path of Truth can use magic to enhance their skills and increase their knowledge. Meanwhile, those following the Path of Secrets can use magic allowing them to investigate for hidden information and keep it away from those who would misuse it. Either way, both wish to preserve and spread knowledge as they hold it sacred. To learn more about Empani and their worshippers, you can go here.

Mishrites

Mishrites worship Mishra, the goddess of guns, war, destruction, and change. Her priests are known for being a bit chaotic, some being compared to Rudrites. Both Mishra and their worshippers hate this comparison. In reality, people are simply resistant to change despite its necessity. Misrha’s priests tend to wield ranged weapons, primarily guns, with their magic being able to enhance their weapons substantially. They also can enhance any explosives they tend to keep on them. Her priests can even control sound a bit, as loud noises are basically just explosions of sound waves. To learn more about Mishra and her worshippers, you can go here.

Neptunians

Neptunians worship Neptune, the god of the sea, sailing, and of mercantilism. Neptune’s magic allows its practitioners to shape the water as they see fit. They can grant the ability to breathe underwater to others, create weapons of water and ice, and even summon storms and hurricanes with their divine power. Some are able to use their magic to transform into animals, primarily sea creatures. Since Neptune also governs mercantilism, some of his priests are also great navigators and merchants who amass lots of wealth and use this to their advantage. To learn more about Neptune and his worshippers, you can go here.

Orusians

Orusians worship Orus, the god of emotions and desire. His priests have the ability to manipulate the emotions of others. The primary emotions they can control are love, hatred, courage, fear, hope, despair, and ironically, apathy, despite apathy being the lack of emotions. Their abilities are so strong that they can completely reshape people’s minds and thoughts in such a manner that they will disobey even their instinct to live. Orusians tend to be known as somewhat eccentric. They follow a primary cause, called an Obsedo. The priesthood is all about the truest expression of the self. To learn more about Orus and his worshippers, you can go here.

Osirites

Osirites worship Osiris, the goddess of nature, wildlife, the earth, and the hunt. While many of the gods may go through cycles or incarnations, Osiris seems to go through them the most, having been reborn quite a bit. Her followers have spells that allow them to call upon animals to serve as companions and guides. They can also do the same for plantlife. Some Osirites use their magic to become better hunters and trackers. Others use their magic to coexist with nature and shape the ground around them, becoming forces of nature in their own right. Some can even fully transform into animals, gaining their abilities whilst keeping their own sentience. To learn more about Osiris and her worshippers, you can go here.

Raites

Ra’ites worship Ra, the god of the sun, light, and order. A bit of a strict god, Ra’ites have the ability to transform light energy into matter and matter into pure energy. They also have control of the skies, summoning storms or droughts. Many Ra’ites make for good leaders, especially military generals or politicians, and use their magic as such. Occasionally, Ra’ites become monster hunters, bringing light against dark, undead creatures. Though, they must always remember that some undead are still people who do not intend to cause harm. To learn more about Ra and his worshippers, you can go here.

Rudrites

Rudrites worship Rudri, the goddess of darkness, chaos, and the undead. Some of her earliest followers were a special type of undead known as Hirudo. These are much rarer now, with many choosing to worship her as general priests, though becoming a Hirudo is still quite possible. Being the goddess of darkness, her worshippers know how to manipulate the darkness and shadows around them. They also have the ability to drain energy and cause matter to decay to suit their purposes. Others know blood magic. Most know chaos magic, which causes all sorts of completely random, unpredictable things to happen in an area for a brief time. Rudrites are generally not well received by the rest of Jaern and Cahyali, and Hirudo are sometimes hunted down as monsters, so if you choose to become a worshipper of Rudri, be warned. To learn more about Rudri and her worshipers, you can go here.

T’orites

T’orites worship T'or, the god of justice and the law. His worshippers will sometimes serve as the central law enforcement, especially in more religious areas. Other times they’re more vigilante-style actors. Whatever the case, both seek justice. Requiring no verbal words to be spoken, nor hand motions to cast, T’or’s magic gives his priests special defensive abilities, allows them to utilize special techniques with holy weapons, and purifies the bodies and minds of his priests such that they shrug off other effects. Some of their magic may assist in detaining lawbreakers. Finally, there are two primary schools of thought for T’orites. Righteousness T’orites usually act more as judge, jury, and executioner to lawbreakers, with their spells reflecting their refusal to back down on anything. They also tend to focus more on logic and hard law. True Justice T’orites, meanwhile, wish to ensure that justice is delivered through the proper channels and tend to notice a bit more of a gray area where emotions get involved. To learn more about T’or and his worshippers, you can go here.

Zepherinites

Zepherinites worship Zepherin, the god of the physical body, strength, health, and victory. As such, Zepherin’s priests unsurprisingly have the ability to manipulate the physical attributes of both themselves and others. They can bolster their own strength and the strength of others, whilst also decreasing the strength of enemies and blocking attacks from those not physically strong enough. The same thing goes for speed and agility, increasing the speed and stealth abilities of themselves and their allies whilst also decreasing their enemy’s agility and making them more clumsy. They can bolster their heartiness while making others more sickly, and they can change their appearance or the appearances of others to be more appealing, and occasionally less appealing. Overall, priests of Zepherin have near full control over the bodies of others. Thankfully, most of them are very chill and focused on improvement of the body, rather than its desecration. To learn more about Zepherin and his worshippers, you can go here.

Esoteric Gods and Minor Deities

There are plenty of minor deities across the multiverse. Some think there are as many minor deities as there are planes of existence, that is to say, an infinite number. Still, few have claims on the planes of Jaern and Cahyali. These priesthoods are much smaller, making their priests quite rare. Most places may not have even heard of some of them. Other deities are a bit more esoteric, Despite this, they still have priests with divine power.

The three current minor deities with claims on Jaern and Cahyali are Quinn, Kelvar, and Tlayahucoatl. Quinn’s priests are seen as vigilant protectors, sharing much of the same spells and abilities as T’orites, Ra’ites, Zepherinites, and Empanians. Kelvar is the minor goddess of dragons and wealth, with her priests sharing similar magic as Osiris, At’ena, Orus, and Ra. They also can simulate effects similar to Fire Magics with their divine power. Tlayahucoatl is a bit more esoteric, only being worshipped in Itlan-Youali. Some believe them to be a conglomerate of the other major deities, but this is questionable. Still, their worshippers share similar abilities with Anubians, Isisites, Ra’ites, Rudrites, and At’enites.

There is also Ninos. Worshipped primarily in Arenti and Shinneok, displays of The Ancient Wind’s powers are limited. Ninos seems to not have direct priests. Rather, their priests follow certain “saints” and the saint they follow has matching abilities to one of the major deities. In many cases they even share a name…
