After a lengthy period of poor recordkeeping, archivists of the Centralia Guild of Wizards have begun collecting and recording events, following the creation of Ageron in 10069.
A note from Story Coordinator: The modern age contains all major events linked to a recent campaign run in club, whereas events before the creation of Ageron in the archive are from older campaigns may have been written ground-up for the purpose of fleshing out locations. If you have more information on events before this time, please contact the PFC Story Board.
As the year of 10080 neared an end, the events on Ageron would not go forgotten and much attention was turned to the leaderless Beneath as it fell ever more into chaos. During this time, a group of adventurers reached the inner reaches of this hellish plane and found a way to regrow the branches of Yggdrasil into the Beneath, evaporating some parts of the Way of Black Tears and allowing magical flow to partially resume in the form of wellsprings.
These wellsprings are accessible on each layer, and act as sources of energy for demons that can be used to survive in lieu of souls - though the siphoning of souls is still a common practice among more powerful and greedy demons. After establishment of the wellsprings, infernal beings have begun to travel the planes as adventurers.
Fall 2022 Newbie Campaign: So Below
News media across Ageron reported often throughout this event. See a collection of articles on the event here.
In the spring of 10080, activity of demon-worshiping cults around Ageron ramped up, becoming more organized than ever before. It was soon discovered that the reason for this was an attempted invasion by the archdemons Barbatos, Astaroth, and Daruka: sibling fallen servitors of Rudri.
The archdemons' forces sowed chaos across Ageron, as several parties of adventurers were dispatched to slay the demons and restore order. Ultimately, Barbatos and Astaroth were defeated with no major collateral damage. Daruka, however, destroyed over half of Vesuna - dragging it into the Beneath - before being flung into the void.
Rebuilding of Vesuna has been slow yet steady, and former Centralia-affiliated adventurer Fyen Juneflower has declared herself king of the city-state.
Spring 2022 Coordinated Campaign
Local Centralia news reported on this event throughout. See some articles written on the event here.
As a revolutionary political party in Prall makes themselves and their demands for independence known, people across the world have begun to become more lax and “day-dreaming”. This hit Prall particularly hard, with about 75% of the population becoming lethargic.
During a carnival within Prall, a strange entity appeared to have been released from the Dreaming, marking those who pledged allegiance to it with tattoos of eyes and granting them strange powers. The followers of this entity organized into an army and marched on Centralia City, overtaking it and razing it to the ground. This army appeared to have been led by At'enites.
Centralia and Prall entered into a trade agreement at the behest of the Dreaming's Spring Court, and Centralia would eventually grant Prall its independence. Additionally, a group of adventurers was able to complete a ritual to clear the influence the “One With a Thousand Eyes” had exerted over the Prallian citizens. Operations in Centralia soon returned to normal, and Prall now enjoys a newfound life as an independent city-state.
This major event was reported on widely across Jaern. See some of the journalists' work here.
Suddenly at the end of 10078, adherents of Osiris across both Jaern and Cahyali found they had lost their power. Not long after, a planet-wide blizzard engulfed all of Jaern. This had severe effects on most areas, as much of the Sunovarm especially was ill-prepared for cold weather. Temples across the planet mobilized to assist the populace.
An individual known as White Blood spoke out against Ra and his Solariums in this time, drawing a solid number of followers. The temples of Ra and Neptune would band together to investigate the blizzard's source and put an end to it. At the same time, strange green lights were seen from multiple At'enite temples across different islands (see the Raze of Centralia).
As mysteriously as the blizzard began, it ended, Osirisites regained their power, and the hot season of 10079 began to return to normal. A wave of vitality swept across the planet, signifying a new season of life after this harrowing event.
Fall 2021 Newbie Campaign: Dead Man's Waters
Several events of interest occurred throughout this time period. They are reported on here.
As the year 10078 approached its end, piracy in the waters of the Rhine appeared to increase - with reports from multiple cities observing that the pirate crews appeared to be manned by undead! Adventurers were quickly dispatched. These incidents were found to be propagated by an undead pirate king named Ishar Magaroth and his widespread band of underlings. They appeared to be using coin-shaped artifacts of Anubis to further their power.
The dispatched adventurers would eventually take down each of Ishar's men in turn, culminating in a battle against him and his benefactors, archdemons Kebeschet and Ophois. They were soundly defeated, and the Rhine celebrated the Festival of the Tides on the last day of 10078 safe and sound.
A large black object with a red corona around it, about the size of Onra in the sky, appeared. Onlookers began to dub it “Onrudri” or “The Black Star” and heralded it as a sign of the apocalypse. Temples and mages' guilds immediately interpreted it as a planar threat and sent adventurers to confront it.
After a confrontation on 5/18, Onrudri disappeared from the sky. After this, a strange planetary body appeared to collide into Jaern, though Jaern's orbit was not affected. It appears like this was some form of planar collision with Jaern.
An adventurer from Koth, an island in the Ageron Region, reports:
“A five-headed giraffe-hydra-thing went on a massive rampage and destroyed part of the town, the town walls, took out an entire generation of Koth archers, caused a few suicides with a Mass Fatal Attraction [spell]. [The] creature mysteriously vanished, after leaving town.”
The town mentioned is suspected but not comfirmed to be Toth.
The banks across Jearn release a notice that most businesses and hirings across Jaern are encouraged to use the gold piece as the standard unit of pay, rather than silver. The conversion rate is 10 pieces of silver to every one gold piece.
Wedding announcements and celebrations are heard across Lojem, as notable adventurers were invited to the marriage of Osiris and N, to be elevated as the demigoddess Summer during the marriage. Reports from those who attended the wedding state that a cloaked figure warned the attendants to be on guard during the wedding. Thus, the wedding was relocated to a grove to the north of Rougtero, where the World Tree was planted in a defensible position.
As the ceremony began, the entity known as Anti-Osiris sent in hirudo werewolves in an attempt to disrupt the wedding and drain the divine power of Osiris. This resulted in a massive and lengthy battle, where the adventurers and Osiris emerged victorious. The ceremony was completed, and N was elevated as Summer, and formally retired from adventuring. A short story based on these events was published in the Rougtero Journal, although it is highly dramaticized in many sections.
A mass exorcism was cast in the city Vesuna, clearing out all the necromancers and undead from the territory. The citizens of Vesuna have returned to find that most of their belongings are misplaced but largely unharmed. Koth has returned to being on roughly equal footing with its competitors in Ageron.
The head archivist of the Helmrest Tarusian Archives, Daeris Kelbelar, was arrested on account of many crimes in Led of 10069. These crimes included murder, theft, destruction of property, breaking and entering, and conspiring against the city-state government. It was then that suspicion began to fall upon the Tarusian archives, which had been poorly regarded by the public for centuries: how deep did this corruption run?
In early 10070, crystal towers which had stood around Jaern shattered, scattering crystals everywhere which absorbed into the soil. The Tarusian priesthood underwent a revival, changing their ways to be more open with knowledge. This reform would take time, however, and was not fully considered finished until 10078, when temples across both Jaern and Cahyali officially opened up membership to all people regardless of gender.
Problems with sexism within the temple remained, but officials encourage the public to rest assured that these internal issues will be quickly and soundly dealt with.
There is now a new continent on Jaern: the three islands of Ageron, Koth, and Gaea. Once a small archipelago with an even smaller population, the combined efforts of many spellcasters resulted in the mass sculpting and raising of land. It's expected to take a couple years until Ageron is developed and ready, but all are excited for the advent of a new land.
