Kleemudor
Kleemudor is the fourth planet in the Onra system. It is an icy planet, covered in swirls of white and grey from the blizzards that rage across its surface. These blizzards are near-constant for most of the year, only stopping for a few months during Kleemudor’s short ‘summer’. When this happens, large swaths of the planet become covered in small but quick growing vegetation that takes advantage of the limited sunlight. Occasionally, the white-grey surface is marred with the blue-green of auroras due to the solar winds and thin atmosphere.
Because the surface of the planet is so inhospitable, the Kleemudor inhabitants (most of which are Kleemudor Purebloods) seek refuge from them in underground ice caverns. These caverns are deep enough underground to avoid most of the surface’s chill. Within these caves, life flourishes. Towns and cities spring up around bodies of water, where food sources can be grown and foraged. Cities in the caves of Kleemudor are lit by glowing crystals. Small ones can be bought cheaply for inside dwellings and activated with a touch, with more expensive ones allowing color change. Large crystals hang from the cave ceilings, embedded in the stalactites so as to light more of the city. The biggest city is called Xyn’thora and it is the location of the only known shrine to Kelvar on the planet. It has a large freshwater lake to one side, with fishing and crabbing happening for much of the year, although much is still preserved in case of a harder than normal winter or late summer.
Food consumed by Kleemudor Purebloods and other residents of Kleemudor is heavily based on meats and other animal products, as plants cannot easily be grown in the caves or in the raging ice storms. Most towns develop around seasonal rivers with year-round lakes full of cave fish and cave crabs fed by runoff from surface life. Both are often frozen in higher caves for long term storage or dried to make a food not reliant on temperature for preservation. A common dish in Kleemudor households involves shavings of raw frozen fish with light seasoning. Reindeer or other land meats can be eaten for special occasions, but it is hard to obtain as the surface is only safe to visit by humanoids for a small portion of the year.
Mistchasers
Mistchasers are large, dragon-like creatures- the adults measuring around 12ft tall at the shoulder with a length from nose to tail tip of around 40ft. They have two wings with an average wingspan of around 80ft, which they use to glide through the high-speed winds of Kleemudor’s blizzards. The underside of their wings can also be lit in a brilliant blue-white light to stun prey. Mistchasers tend to have a more bulky build, trading agility for wings and the light they produce. Their four legs are thick and sturdy, and their paws have serrated claws that they use to cling to icy cliffsides. They have long tails with spikes along the top, which are used like rudders. Mistchasers see predominantly through heat vision, as normal eyesight usually isn't enough to traverse the blizzards that constantly torment the surface of Kleemudor.
Their bodies are covered in pale ice-like scales that grow sharp around the neck and down the spine. The spines on their back and neck look similar to icicles, and are used for self defense when they are young. Mistchasers' scales tend to lean from icy blue to pastel purple when they hatch, and slowly turn whiter as they age. Most times it is difficult to tell their actual color because of the amount of snow and ice covering their scales. Their scales amplify frost magics- which, along with them being warm blooded, allow Mistchasers to survive the freezing temperatures.
Mistchasers tend to be solitary creatures, meeting up rarely to have a clutch of eggs. The parents stay with the hatchlings until a year or so after they hatch- before leaving the children to fend for themselves. Mistchaser hatchlings grow to adulthood in around ten years, before their growth slows considerably but continues indefinitely. Only 1-2 Mistchasers ever reach this age from a single clutch. After four to six centuries, Mistchasers eventually grow large enough to be considered ancient. Ancient Mistchasers are few and far between, but face little opposition other than other ancient Mistchasers.
All Mistchasers have innate draconic magic, their supply of which grows as they age- allowing Ancients to make magic contracts and deals, among other things. An increased magic capability allows the specific individual to live for a longer length of time. When they’re younger, it is used to keep them warm and hidden- though their uses of it become more unique as they mature into adulthood. Because of this, magic used by adult Mistchasers tends to have an appearance unique to the specific user.
They, like most surface dwelling creatures, are opportunistic hunters. The underside of their wings is covered with bioluminescent scales that can be lit to create a brilliant flash of light that they use to stun their prey. Younger Mistchasers have a harder time controlling these scales, and so they tend to have the glow whenever their wings are spread. They gain more control over the scales as they age. The flashbang is hard to position because of how their wings are built, so when doing it- it’s more of a wide range attack that hits everywhere but directly behind them. Mistchasers are immune to this attack- as they see through predominantly heat vision.
Discarded scales of Mistchasers are highly sought after by Kleemudor Purebloods for their wide range of uses. The scales themselves are useful in alchemical recipes for traversing frigid climates as well as in armors for their temperature-controlling effects. Shed back and neck spines are able to be carved and used as weapons. When either are powdered and added to molten metals, it can be used to strengthen the material.
Icestalkers
Icestalkers are aggressive carnivores that roam the surface of Kleemudor. They can grow up to 20ft long, and 8ft tall at the shoulder. They have 6 limbs, which they use to hunt and traverse the icy wastes of their home. Because of their extra limbs, they have better stability when climbing though treacherous terrain. Icestalkers also have a long tail that ends in a venomous barb, which they use to paralyze prey when they hunt. They have little to no magical capabilities.
They have large, icicle-like scales that run along their back, from their head to the base of their tail. Similar spines also run along the tip of their tail, obfuscating the venomous barb slightly. Their neck is covered in thick plate scales, while the rest of their body is covered in smaller triangular-shaped scales. Their scales come in a wide variety of cool colors, similar to a faded Kleemudor Pureblood’s. Similar to Mistchasers, these colors are usually hidden under snow and ice- and pale further as they age.
Icestalkers get their name from how they hunt. They are long distance stalking predators, similar to polar bears. While the blizzards are raging, they use their mediocre heat vision to locate prey. After which they will follow their prey for miles, waiting until it slows to rest before closing the distance and finishing them off. During the summer months they use their scale color to blend into the surroundings to get closer to their prey, before running them down after they get close enough.
Icestalkers live for about 30-60 years. Most of the time, they exist alone, although some individuals have been known to form small family groups to hunt. These groups usually consist of up to three adults. For solo individuals, they pair up every few years and lay a clutch of 7-8 eggs, half of which usually survive until adulthood.
Despite the possible use of their scales for alchemical recipes, Kleemudor Purebloods refuse to use any part of Icestalker, usually leaving the body untouched after one is slain. It is said that Icestalkers are what became of the Impure Kleemudors when they were shoved to the surface many years ago. Rumors have it that the Impure traded their consciousness to an ancient Mistchaser in exchange for the ability to survive on the surface of the planet. It is unknown how much truth lies in the rumor, but the similar 6-legged body plan, the venomous tail barb, and the similar scale colors have led many to speculate about the Icestalker’s origins.
