This week marked a solemn yet joyous occasion as our Lady Chelsea was laid to rest on Is'Damor. The people of our City began the celebration calmly but the need for release overwhelmed everyone before it was over.Starting at dawn vendors began hawking their memorobilia and snack foods. During the night a delegation from Prall had swept through the city restoring the karival areas to their former glory, a sharp reminder to this City of how far it has fallen. I chanced to speak with one gentleman from Prall who had come to clean. When asked what the Assembly was paying him he replied:
We aren't being paid. We do this as a tribute to Lady Chelsea. Afterward your city can rot. You people didn't deserve such a one.He would say no more and most other Prall's ignored questions and went about their work under the watchful gaze of the Solarium's security forces. When asked about the presense of the Pralls a guard only answered, "What choice do you think they had?"Regardless of the motivation, our city was the perfect place to hold Chelsea's Rememberance. By mid-morning the press of crowds had risen to the right level and the tension, and the energy, of the people could be felt everywhere. Many painters, and sketch artists, were moved to take positions outside the crowds and give vent to their inspirations.
Promptly at noon the sepulchre opened and a long procession of grey robed priests moved out of the building. At the center of the procession they carried the guilded coffin of Chelsea. The procession moved through the city as the crowd parted before them, pausing only once to accept Leader Prem's blessing before continuind on to the Ferry. As the procession approached the waters edge a rainbow bridge sprang into existence between Centralia and Is'Damor. The priests did not even pause as they crossed the bridge to the Island of the Dead. As they walked over the water the crowd roared and the real Karnival began.
Months of tension seemed to be released in moments as people waved, cried and cheered in their turn. When the priests reached the other side, the bridge disappeared. At its disappearance the people returned to the merriments of the City.
Good Bye, Chelsea. I hope the gods are taking better care of you. You will be remembered.
Lady Chelsea was born at the turn of the Millenium. She was the daughter of Baron Wills and his third wife Patricia. Unlike Will's other, lesser known, children Chelsea had a flair for leadership from the very beginning. By the time she was five she had become heir apparent to Baron Wills and beloved of the people. At age 19, she was instrumental in persuading the lords of Centralia to allow the influx of refugees from the sinking of Karfelon. Persuading our city to take the good with the bad and allow them to set up their own village so that their culture might survive even though their island did not.
Chelsea spent much time among the Pralls attempting to educate them and to raise their standards.
When the gods turned their backs on us and began testing us, she stayed with us long after the others had abandoned the Island.
In Pim of 10025 she lost her life aboard a ship taking her out for the holidays. She deserved better.
Ganid Sluq is preparing her memoroirs. If you have a story of Chelsea that you would like to share, please share your story with Ganid as well. All of our memories of Chelsea should be preserved.
Now that we've gotten rid of the morally corrupt Scroggers, can we move onto the root cause of evil? Why do we permit people to openly worship Rudri? The mother of chaos? The mistress of suffering? Especially now, why?I think that the priests of Ra, who claim to be sword enemies of the darkness called Rudri, should use their powers to put an end to this. To bring our city back to the moral purity that made it great to begin with! If they'll use their power to keep a couple of Pralls from getting uppity, why not to stop the Evil One? Or does their magic only work on pathetic street cleaners?
