[MAIN COTSS] A First Lesson in Philosophy S3&4
Plot Synopsis
The party exits the vault deciding to look for more clues on how to exit the interior vault door. They come across a little guy named Korall who is not secretive about their allegiance to the Pajak pirates who broke into the vault in the first place. They seemed harmless so the party decided to keep them around, hoping it would tie back to the key that they need to continue onwards in the vault. The party returned to the inn where they met with the employer and were payed for their deeds thusfar (900 gold - 600 to Whetherill for a missed session). The party goes to sleep and are interrupted by a shared dream in which they were in their room but everything outside the window was black and the same howling they heard in the vault seemed to be coming from the distance. Opening the door to the room revealed that the rest of the inn was replaced by the final hallway of the vault where the door had a new carving reading "can you hear me." Petrikov answered "no" to which a new carving appeared. Getting spooked by the combination of the howling, darkness, and talking door, they just left and went back to sleep ending the dream. After awaking one final message was found carved into the wall of what is now the inn's hallway asking Korall directly to "go to where it all started." Korall stated that it was probably the captain, who was born in Ulos not far from where the party is now and so they took a ferry across the ocean, living the luxury life at a cocktail party, eventually making it to their destination.
Start Session 4
There is a festival happening where the party landed. They are approached by a stranger that knows Korall and who wanted to speak to them in private. They point the party to the festival telling them to have fun and explore. The party notices that everyone is wearing robes and masks to which an eager robe and mask salesman informs them that it is a festival to the Old Dreamt, Blue Moon (which was not explicitly explained to the party) who is worshiped in this village as the God of Art and Beauty. The masks and robes are to hide outer beauty and reveal the true inner beauty of the wearer. The party mostly reluctantly bought the robes as disguises if nothing else as most of them remain skeptical. They then go about sampling local dishes and restocking supplies before going into some of the more special activities. They start with skii ball where in order to win prized that seemed custom tailored to them, they had to give up limbs. The party was more or less tempted but ultimately refused the mysterious stranger. They continued onwards towards the sound of music where they encountered a large tent playing chaotic jazz. Whetherill got tempted by the funky beats and wandered in. After a little too much time in the music, the howling began to return as the edges of his mind got dulled out and he was lured deeper in before breaking out of the spell. He regrouped with the others and after being confronted by a group of locals they all awkwardly disengaged from the conversation. They were once again stopped by someone who seemed interested in the fact that Whetherill was able to break out of the spell and told the party to contact her because she needed some assistance. The party went back to their agreed meeting space to regroup with Korall and after a conversation about Freddy Fazbear's hazing rituals the two met back up with party. The party wanted to just get out but Korall insisted that they wanted to play some games. Confused about what was going on the party looked for answers and decided to meet with the stranger once more. The stranger gave some explenation as to what happened. The town was a group of skeletons who prayed to Blue Moon and saw undeath as the ultimate equalizer of beauty, making them all equal in the eyes of their god, purged from sin and imperfection. One day a woman came offering modernization in return they worship her gods and the townsfolk began to grow more hateful to outsiders, intentionally luring them in and trapping them instead of respecting them and only converting the willing. With this knowledge the party worried for Korall's saftey and found them at the skiiball vendor, missing part of their arm. Wardkeeper sold their soul to the vendor to give Korall the prize right there and spare them the rest of their body. They did not have custody over their soul to give so the vendor agreed and slapped them with an IOU for if they ever gain control once again. With Korall free from their grasp the party meets with the stranger (Olioli) one more time before getting back on the boat they arrived on.
