The Day Has Come! The Night Is Passing! Silmarillion Game - Verse 7: Chorus Interlude

Plot Synopsis

The party continued south towards the realm of Doriath, approaching it from the west. As they got closer, they noticed the trees starting to get denser as well as larger, going from scattered outcroppings of normal-sized trees to a dense wall of massive trees. Though these ones reached far beyond the clouds, and far beyond eyesight, being far taller than any normal tree could ever be, Glorfinmandur noted that these were still but constrained by the laws of Middle Earth, grown only with Elvish power, whereas the Two Trees of Valinor for instance had been more akin to the trees of Osiris. Another thing the party noticed as they got closer was the seeming wall of mist shrouding the forest. This was the Girdle of Melian. At first it had seemed almost like wispy strips of fog, before condensing into a solid wall that blocked their sight completely at some point after the trees became a proper dense forest of colossal size. The Girdle was extremely magical, and would deny access to anyone who bore any ill-intent to Doriath, its rulers, or its people. The party, having been sent by Eru for the good of the Elves, were able to push through and were granted access by the Girdle who noted they came as friends.
Right after they entered the borders of Doriath proper, several scouts immediately appeared from where they had been camouflaged in the canopies. As they had been granted access by the Girdle, the scouts were not immediately hostile, however were required to learn their business and intent in Doriath. The party told them of their summons by Eru, their mission, the Balrog they had hunted down and banished, as well as the Noldor’s commitment to a full alliance and push against Morgoth. The scouts then took them to Menegroth, the capital of Doriath, to speak with Thingol, Melian, Luthien, and the other nobles of the realm about these developments and further plans.
The party was brought to the Thousand Caves, where they were lead into the innermost chambers to the throne room of the Sindarin King Elu Thingol himself, alongside his Mairin wife Melian and their daughter Luthien. The party was then given their formal introductions, where they announced their purpose, but for the more dedicated negotiations, they were brought to a special council room off to the side alongside the major nobles. The fact that they had been granted entry by the Girdle was a point in their favor but some of the more hardline Sindarin Lords were unconvinced at the prospect of working with the Noldor and specifically Fëanor. Thingol eventually pointed out that regardless, Doriath would not be able to mobilize immediately due to the dark spiders of Nan Dungortheb which were infesting the lands just north of their borders and posing a threat, so they could not march out to defeat Morgoth with a danger on their doorstep. To win their trust, the Party offered to help slay the spiders to free up the Elves for war against Morgoth.
