Adventurers pure of heart and steadfast in their courage are sought to take part in a quest to purge a world of a foul beast and fulfill a vaunted destiny. Seek out Ynyr at the Stopover Inn at 9 am.
Ynyr tells of his world, Krull, where the Beast and his armies seek to conquer all. He speaks of a great destiny, a girl of ancient name who, with her husband, shall defeat the beast and rule the world, and their children shall rule the galaxy.
Ynyr believes he has found the pair that are to fulfill this destiny, a prince named Colwyn and a woman named Alyssa. He needs adventurers to help them realize this and go through their trials, and is offering a decent sum of money. The adventurers seem up for helping this all come to pass, and feel that the reward is worth it.
The adventurers arrive at the world and set out towards the castle where the two are to be married soon. On the way, the group encounters some Slayers, creatures of the Beast's army armed with powerful laser weapons and that burst out of their helmets and burrow into the Earth upon their deaths. The adventurers handle them easily, but are disturbed by their loud, screeching death cries.
After a couple of days, they arrive to find the castle in ruins. It was clearly attacked by the Beast's army of Slayers, Ynyr says. As they search for survivors, Dena sets off at superspeed to track down a group they passed earlier and halt times them. She returns and the group finds Colwyn injured and unconscious, with Alyssa gone, presumably taken by the Slayers.
The group spend some time at the castle, helping the survivors and speaking with Colwyn. Eventually he is convinced of his destiny, and Ynyr speaks of the next step in fulfilling it. They must travel to a cave and retrieve a weapon that was prophesized to help slay a great evil: The Glaive, a five-pointed bladed throwing weapon.
They spend two days getting to the mountains where the Glaive is reported to lay waiting. They climb the straight cliff-face and reach the cave. Inside the cave, they find a geologically-inappropriate pool of lava, and some vary keen senses notice the Glaive underneath the lava near the edge of the pool. After several foolish attempts to retrieve it normally, including one burnt-off arm and near-death experience, the adventurers spell-cascade a way to "Open" the lava, allowing them to retrieve the Glaive before more lava from the edges pours in on top of it.
Colwyn takes the Glaive, and begins practicing with it over the next few days. Ynyr tells the group that they must now seek out the Black Fortress, where the Beast resides. The only problem is that the Fortress materializes in a new location at dawn of every day. They must seek out an Emerald Seer who shall help them scry the location until they can find where it is.
On the way to the Emerald Seer's cottage, the group encounters a strange entertainer, man named Ergo who seems to be a very inept shapechanger. He trades insults with the adventurers, but when he finds out that their are likely Slayers nearby, he asks to travel with them... to help protect them, of course.
The group then comes across a group of bandits, who were going to try to rob them, but after some talking to by Colwyn, are convinced to help free the world from the oppression of the Beast and his armies.
The group, now much larger, arrives at the Seer's cottage. They are met by his apprentice, a boy named Titch, who allows in Colwyn, Ynyr, the adventurers, and the bandit leader, Torquil. The group convinces the Seer to attempt to divine the location of the Black Fortress. Musang offers some help in this by letting the seer where his helmet of Backfire. The seer looks into a levitating crystal, and as he is about to see the location, a hand appears and smashes the crystal. The Beast is too strong. They must travel to a place of power, an ancient temple, where the Seer's powers will be enhanced such that even the Beast won't be able to block him out.
So the group sets out for a swamp where this temple now lies, marked by a place where three trees grow together as one. They take a few days getting there, and at night the people on watch keep reporting that they think something is watching them. The final night, as they are camped out on the edge of the swamp, the camp is attacked by a large mass of Slayers. The bandits and adventurers all go out and attack. Colwyn gets in some Glaive practice and takes out a bunch of Slayers. After a little while, the group emerges victorious.
The next day the adventurers travel the swamp. After some troubles with quicksand and slow going, they get near the temple. The Emerald Seer states that only he of destiny who seeks the knowledge may follow, so he and Colwyn go on alone. After some time, the party hears the death cry of a Slayer. Colywn comes back, with a cyclops at his side. Apparently, some time during the battle the previous night, someone snuck into the Emerald Seer's tent and killed him, replacing him with a Slayer. The cyclops, called Rell, has been following and watching the group for a while. As he followed behind, he saw the Seer's body in the quicksand, and figured out what had happened. He swung around the group and went to the temple, where he saved Colwyn just in time.
Ynyr seems relieved that Colwyn is well, but the group is having trouble figuring out what to do next. They now have no way to find the Black Fortress.
Ynyr speaks up: "I may know a way. It is desperation, but perhaps we can seek the Widow of the Web..."
