Hydrophobia I [Dirge from the Depths] (Ailwen, Geleia, Jearn)

Plot Synopsis

Hook: Between bustling taverns and talented artists, Geleia sure knows how to put on a festival. Toy aetherite lanterns dance about the sky, the mashed tunes of street performers fill the air, and you cannot help but move along in the town’s jubilee. Amidst this week-long party, posted on every message board and sign within Ailwen, you find a formally printed document, seeking your talents.

“As a finale to the Festival of Unity, to celebrate the formation of the Anva’anri League and the accomplishments it represents, we the government of Ailwen decree the immediate organization of what shall henceforth be known as the Tournament of Heroes. We invite the town guard, amateur adventurers, and any who are passionate to participate. You may win glory, prizes, and even learn from the best.”

But what should be the orchestra of battle is soon overpowered by the ringing of alarms from the shore. What is it? Pirates? War? A pit forms in your stomach as you imagine legends of what lurks deep within the depths. You’ve heard whispers—rumblings of aquatic abominations growing restless throughout Jearn’s waters. Though, you should always take rumors with a grain of salt. You are not sure what troubles lie ahead, but surely something wicked this way comes. Nevertheless, answer the call to action, defend what you can, or if the odds are stacked against you, make a tactical retreat.

Summary: (Short session) The party enters into the Tournament of Heroes, meeting a number of other colorful characters taking place in the event. Ashira Tkach is a nomad who runs a local orphanage. Levi Torivors, the draconic lineage cook that occasionally assists Ashira and was turned permanently invisible by an accident. Gash Radcliff is the Dwarven deputy head of the town guard. An unnamed Mishrite sniper bounty hunter. Harriett Ivy the Halfling and tricky criminal. Alica, a water elemental and mage healer, who traveled from afar to attend the tournament. Finally Cerys Weaver, local town council member, human Raite (in name only), and secret member of the Bathysmal church, introduces two members of the party, Irdition and Aldus, for the first match of the tournament. Right before the match can begin, the attack begins on Ailwen, and the party runs from the tournament to deal with the commotion.
