The Day Has Come! The Night Is Passing! Silmarillion Game - Part 4
Plot Synopsis
With the first pincer movement of the entire plan successfully enacted, the path was clear to conduct similar pincer movements on an increasing scale with the forces of the rest of Fëanor’s sons, who had ranged ahead with their forces and split up to draw the Orcs between them for the trap. Fëanor revealed that one of his desires in organizing this offensive against Morgoth was to use the victory as a rallying symbol for the Elves, to draw them together for the destruction of Angband once and for all. In the middle of this discussion, scouts sent word that a company of traveling Elves had been cut off by Morgoth’s forces and driven back to a hill where they were surrounded by. Fëanor immediately marshaled his forces to set off to their aid, with the party alongside him.
Riding quickly towards this location, the party came upon the scene of a group of Teleri archers who had been serving as scouts before they were overrun back to a hilltop, with the forces of Feanor and his sons converging as the pincer to break the encirclement. Leading this force of Orcs (who were more disciplined and organized than before) and Trolls was a Balrog who was harrying the Teleri upon the hilltop. The party immediately concentrated their forces on the center to break the Orc lines, with Quinn beelining for the hilltop to drive the Balrog back towards the rest of the party. While Zaria, Barrik, Nico, NPC, and Eryndor made a gap in the Orc formations as Groton drew the Troll’s attention, Fëanor and Glorfinmandur charged the retreating Balrog at the center. Between the forces of all the Elves, the Balrog realized it was overmatched and attempted to flee. When Quinn pinned it with her arrows, she was able to get it to realize that while it served Morgoth, he didn’t care for it, causing it to retreat south away from Angband rather than north to regroup with Morgoth. The party let it go, hoping it would be an opportunity to turn it against the forces of evil.
