Plot Synopsis

The party wakes from a restful night's sleep (except Rilo) and has breakfast at Fantas's place before heading out to infiltrate the Chemical Plant. Most of party opts to call Pequod to parachute onto the roof of the facility from his plane, while Raiden decides to try to pose as a new worker to try to sneak in before realizing he doesn't have an id card or anything proving he's employed there, so he meets the rest of party on the roof. From there Volke disguises himself as the facility's head of security who Raiden met, and the two head through the facility's main level with the rest of part trailing stealthily behind.

Upon coming to the secure wing of the facility, Volke and Raiden are able to distract the guard and get into the head of security's office, which combined with Brian reading the guard's mind grants them full knowledge of the traps in the area. They discover the only way to the floor Watcher is on is an elevator, which they cut the part of the roof out of to hide everyone else in case there's traps. Fortunately, when they reach the Watcher's floor, the only security is a single camera which Volke realizes is fake. There are laser grids blocking off the side hallways, but the door to the Watcher's room is clear, so Volke heads in with Raiden, hoping to pretend to turn Raiden over as a spy.

When they get in they see Watcher and a mysterious second man who quickly sees through their ruse and introduces himself as Doctoral Candidate Nefarious. Nefarious is a member of an organization known as the Cahyali Intervention Arbiters, who are dedicated to preventing conflict on the plane. Seeing the Great War as their greatest failure, it also served as a cover for their organization to expand. Nefarious reveals that the artifact they discovered in Dahabu was a miliphite crystal of unknown origin that seems to allow for continuous and limitless magical power. Even with their preliminary research the crystal has provided enough power for a number of experiments and technology.

Nefarious explains that the sole aim of their organization is to prevent conflict, that the technology he’s produced is exclusively nonlethal, and that the crime lords he planned on running security with were nothing but pawns to be dealt with later. He warns that any aggressive action will be dealt with him deactivating the laser fields on the side hallways and allowing guards to flood in, but as proof of his peaceful intentions, he offers to give the crystal to the party on the condition that they sign an arcane contract that prevents them from using it to produce weapons and from interfering with his organization in the future. After some debate, the party agrees that they can’t sign, and Volke manages to swipe the crystal from Nefarious’s hand. Both Watcher and Nefarious escape through pneumatic tubes in the floor, and session ends as alarms start to blare.
