Winterfall XIII (The Recordatio, Void/Pthora, Cahyali)

Plot Synopsis

The party engages in their final showdown with Arsynoe at the end of the world. As the battle goes on, the Godwheel becomes more and more damaged. Uriel sends a last-ditch DI to Icarian, and he arrives just in time to save them from a lethal attack that would have killed all of them and destroyed the Godwheel in one fell swoop. He's now all grown, and appears as a mixture between his old self and Gwyll. The party defeats her, with Volke getting the final blow to wrap up the contract that he took a year and a half ago.

As she dies over the emblem of Isis, she murmurs a last prayer to her "mother". The Godwheel shatters, and the party can feel Dipha's hands on them as she guides them to safety back on Cahyali, and at the same time consumes her own lifeforce to keep the gods' connection to the mortal plane alive.

When the party wakes up, they find themselves at Polis... just as a vision of the Godwheel lights up the night sky, priests' connections to their deities surge, and... the moon implodes and collapses into a donut-shaped husk. No meteors fall on the planet, though, and everyone senses that Dipha is not truly gone... just sleeping. Uriel uses Temporal Regression, not knowing what will happen, and ends up back in the Recordatio. Dipha offers an opportunity to go back in time... forever, or for a mere fifteen minutes. Uriel takes it, just to say goodbye to her father and return to the present forever.

After a tearful goodbye, she returns to the others at Polis. They go back to the city, resolving to show Zimina's sword to Shinneok, and let it rest with Volkov's regime. General Young knights the entire party as honored war heroes of Shinneok. With this, Pthora has officially withdrawn from the war, and made strides to rebuild their relationship with the Johtalit and grant them formal independence and support for sovereignty. Shinneok will bring their soldiers home from Pthoran battles, and leave the battered nation well enough alone. Yet, the war still rages... Ley'Ork has not surrendered. Far from it.

Marlowe and Elizabeth head out to Brensweep, and Marlowe sets her gunblade down. Ivana, the spirit of her daughter, stays with the Watcher. Volke and Sadie form their own PMC, the Diamond Daggers, on a massive offshore ship. Aether heads out to rebuild Pthora and build infrastructure between isolated towns and tribes, and Uriel heads off to find Cyrus and move forwards with her life... finally accepting that the past is closed. Vladisk heads to university in Geleia, and the Watcher heads to Nahrul to pick up a boat.

Icarian resolves to stay on Cahyali and become an adventurer.
