Plot Synopsis
The party speaks with Volkov about what he's doing here and free the Pthoran maid that was accidentally brought along. They then look around the area, looking at what to do with the people here. Uriel speaks with Zimina, finding out her motives: she believes that, given enough time, the gods will drain all magic from its source via the repeated (if indirect) creation of souls, and she must kill the gods to prevent this doom. They look into the temple district, looking for priests, but find every temple to be completely empty. They study the books that they took from Zimina's library, finding that she had been researching the void, the odd nature of the moon Dipha, and the theories on the origin of souls.
They go to the prison, finding it completely unguarded. The people inside seem to be aware of their situation, and want to leave. One of them has convinced Volkov to kill them, and as they die their body immediately drops through a short-lived rift into the Kurago. The party frees the other prisoners, and eventually all but two elect to die and leave this place for a future in the Kurago. They speak to an innkeeper, finding that everyone is aware of their situation. However, she doesn't want to leave this place: the people here do not want their vision of ancient Dahabu to die, as they are the only ones left who know it firsthand... even if all of them are already dead. To them, moving on is a betrayal of their home.
Without many other options, wondering how to save everyone, the party resolves to go to the palace tower in search of more clues. How exactly is Zimina going to use this place for her ends? There is still too much they don't know.
