Gilded Slumber - The Wrong Shephard | Chapter 3
Plot Synopsis
The party learns of Yohana's whereabouts by cross-referencing information from a local tavern and blacksmith. Uriel also uses magic to locate hotspots of dreamt activity in the nearby area, which confirms Yohana's location. The party then treks through the woods, and along the way discover more and more signs of dreamt influence. Eventually, they end up walking in a warped forest surrounded by cautious fey creatures watching from the bushes and branches. The group meets Yohana there, and they talk in her cabin. After the party relays Peter's message, Yohana explains that she can't leave until she helps a fragment of a powerful fey creature that was bound to this land. The party proceeds to the grove where this dreamt fragment is held, and descends down a cold stone staircase to meet it. The group encounters the fey, which uses roots to puppet around the skeleton of a dead jester to communicate with them. The dreamt reveals that their unfragmented self lost a bet with a stronger fey, and then had to separate a part of itself to guard a relic. However, that was centuries ago, and the dreamt is now really bored. After making the party do enough random shenanigans to constitute putting up a "reasonable defense", the dreamt lets the group take the relic and leaves. After experimenting with the relic by letting Yaupon hold it, the group finds out that the relic makes a noise when exposed to dreamt magic. The party leaves the room and meets with Yohana again, who thanks them and gives them a small reward. Then, the party returns to Karem and boards a carriage headed back for Victoria.
