Plot Synopsis
The party goes to Murray and Morrison Mine, a coal mine where the entire surrounding town and it's workers are gathered at the tavern and celebrating at the chagrin of their employers. The boss tells them that the mine has been shut down because the miners believe a witch named Jenny Buttonsnatcher- who traditionally was blamed for minor annoyances like missing buttons and broken lanterns- is responsible for the disappearances of four miners. Upon going out to investigate, they find a small goblin named Jenkins is struggling to go down alone. The party follows him and finds out he's going down to find his wife, one of the miners who went missing. As they go, they find themselves trapped in a labyrinth of corridors that defy logic, with doors that lead to random rooms. They are confronted by the witch, who kills Keegan. In the limbo between life and death, Keegan meets Mr. Mauvise-Idée, a powerful being who is half man, half mountain lion, and huge. It is assumed that he is the one the party saw in the woods at the beginning. He offers Keegan his life back if a very unspecific debt is repaid to him overtime, with the alternative being Keegan being sent to the Beneath (this is a lie, he wouldn't have been sent there but Mauvise-Idée is tricky). Keegan is brought back and the party kills the witch, toppling the Cairn they find. They are given free rooms and board for the night. Keegan, who was lanced through the eye and had his eyelid sealed close when he woke up, is able to open it again. This reveals his eye has been replaced with the eye of an owl.
(NOTE: Keegan's mid-game mythic item will be a handful of mutates, which will be given over time as his curse progresses. His end-game legendary magic item will instead be two mythic level items. One of these "items" is more mutates, which will compound with the mutates he received previously to make a legendary level "item". He will also received one actual mythic item.)
