Along Treacherous Lines VIII - Fathers and Mothers [S&S]

Plot Synopsis

In Ulos, Wisteria speaks with Sunflight Tsorren, who is oddly honest about his goals and intentions. First, he reveals that he spearheaded the war-beast creation technique, and is the man responsible for creating the mutated grassfangs. He also points out that Anemone, Wisteria’s pet, is also carrying latent mutation. He then reveals that this was all inspired by Wisteria - as she is, in fact, half-elemental and the illegitimate child of Zheng Chen. Stunned and distraught, Wisteria storms away, later confronting Chen and leaving before she can explain herself.

The next morning, Raiden, Kentaro, and Michi head through a portal to Kyousei, and go straight for an audience with the Shogun. They inform him of the plot to steal the Shogunbane, and he directs his personal guard, the Yorukitsune, to lead them into the catacombs where the weapon is stored. They are told to stand guard at an iron door. Becoming bored, Raiden and Kentaro solve a puzzle to open the door, and Kentaro and Michi head down into the chasm beyond it.

Back in Yugon’s home village, Cyrus gets a message from the Archmage informing him that she has felt a great necromantic presence head through a portal she’s set up. She tells him that this may be his only chance to find answers to his past, and he gathers the others to head through. They land in the palace catacombs. Raiden notices them land, and heads to investigate. Meeting up with the rest of the group, they also head down past the iron door.

When at the bottom, Kentaro points a gun at Yugon, only for Michi to hit him on the back of the head and tell him to calm down. They hear noises of the undead from the top of the chasm, and quickly open a stone door at the bottom - opening a far older part of the catacombs. Heading in, they come to a series of puzzle rooms, and eventually make their way through to a vault. In one room, marked “Life,” are five fully-charged Tablets of Heavenly Balm (KIB032). Cyrus takes one. In another room, marked “King,” with piles of gold ingots and - behind a red shield - the Shogunbane.

Just then, skeletal samurai burst into the initial hallway, shrugging off the party’s attacks to summon Zima, the diplomat. They arrive to head her off, and a fierce battle begins.
