Plot Synopsis
Topaz has a dream, part of a recurring one involving the mansion of his old self, Esteban. However, it is interrupted by Apep, who speaks to him and offers a rather Faustian deal: it will "sever what he does not desire from him", in exchange for freedom. Topaz seems to seriously consider it, even pitching the idea of assisting Apep to the others. Sochi is extremely against the notion, while Alba seems rather opinionated on the topic but repeatedly flipflops between Topaz and Sochi's sides. Either way, the party agrees that something must be done, so they head off towards the pyramid.
On arrival, they can see that sand is flowing towards a point below the structure that they can't see, and Topaz uses his piranha plant item to dig through the sand and reach the door. It opens with a touch, and the party enters into a long, long hallway with murals that, after some analysis, appear to depict Pharaoh Anpu-Khasti, first pharaoh of the Dahabu Empire. Apep seems to be with him as he slaughters his enemies, and appears with his advisors as they, at the end of his reign, slaughter him. This information only seems to divide the party more as they come to an atrium with a Sekhem scepter at its center.
After some experimentation, they manage to summon water on the scepter, which flows into channels leading to the other rooms. The water falls onto a large crystalline eye shape in one room, which moves aside to reveal a spiral staircase leading down. Sochi wonders if this is the "spit on Apep's eye" detailed in her vision that may be part of the ritual to his defeat.
