Welcome to the Jungle I (S&S Intro Campaign)
Plot Synopsis
The party meets for the first time in the Commission of Sorcery, where they speak to Zheng Chen and receive their hiring. She pays them 100 gc upfront, and gives them information on the missing persons case: the party is shown portraits of the two missing people, as well as a photo of giant animal tracks. They go shopping to prepare, and meet in the evening. Zheng Chen opens a portal near a dock in Laohu, where a canoe with supplies is waiting for them. Upon arrival, it is raining - hard.
The party gets on the boat, sailing across a river and heading north towards the missing persons’ last known location. After a while of walking, the sun sets and they take shelter in an abandoned cottage, locking it up tight after hearing movements in the underbrush. The night passes without incident, but they are ambushed by a hunting pair of Laohu Grassfangs early the next morning. They successfully dispatch the pair, taking time to recuperate from the ambush and continuing on.
They find the researchers’ campsite, seemingly scorched and ransacked by some creature. Wisteria reads the logbook of one of the researchers, detailing how they were hounded by what seemed to be a giant grassfang. The beast’s tracks lead northward still, with evidence that it dragged someone off, but they fought back. Crossing another river, the party runs into a pair of baby grassfangs, playing in a clearing. Figuring these must be the babies of the beast they’re looking for, they devise a trap involving the babies, and the mother walks right in: a giant, mutated, artificially enhanced grassfang capable of spitting fire. She proves herself to be more than a match for the party, and they retreat to hide in a cave, only to spy the glow of a campfire emanating from further inside...
