Ley'Ork

  • Government Type: Aristocracy/Democracy
  • Symbol: Dragonfly
  • Major Races: Cosmopolitan
  • Major Cities: Metro, Ley'Ork Spire, Courtsland, Port, Landing

The enterprising industrialists in charge of Ley’ork are a forward thinking bunch that sacrifice anything in the name of expansion and growth. Fostering a culture where one’s work comes to define the aspect of their being, the norm is that productivity is the only factor in one’s success in not only Ley’ork, but in life. Forgoing a traditional governmental structure, the leaders of Ley’ork are determined in an electoral system, though the number the votes an individual gets is proportional to the amount of property a person has. Property only reaps votes if it is actively being worked by employees, children, or being rented out for use by others. Due to this, the government system more closely represents an aristocracy of an elite few families. Having children is viewed as a societal duty. Functionally, they can inherit/work your property and thus continue the values of your family with their ballot. Many of the wealthiest families have arranged marriages for their children to foster mutually beneficial relationships amongst their family businesses and political views. This has led to a few families gaining nearly all the control in Ley’Ork economically and politically, as well as running the Harena Trade Union of Cahyali (HTUC). They are listed below, as well as their major interests and holdings:

  • Tàkeau: This family of rich half-elves claim to be one of the founding families of Ley’Ork. Even if that is true, it cannot be proven, as they figuratively, and literally, write the history of Ley’Ork. In charge of museums, history, the education system, etc. they keep their control by continually indoctrinating citizens that they belong in control.
  • Vane: Head of industry in Ley’Ork, this human family controls factories, as well as the military-industrial complex. They secretly propagate wartime by sparking revolutions in other countries and selling weapons to them, while supplying Ley’Ork's military with weapons for 'anti-terrorist' efforts to continuously profit. They also run criminal labor camps and offer living complexes that exchange a home for labor (ultimately keeping these people in never ending exploitation).
  • Wren: This family of Saedic elves, while not established in any office, holds a large amount of power through running the criminal underground throughout Ley’Ork. Officially, they own many casinos, gentlemen and ladies’ clubs, and other similar establishments in the Red Light Districts of major cities.
  • Dævian: This family of gnomes are highly secretive, and not very well known within Ley’Ork. They secretly head the research and development of Ley’Ork and are responsible for pushing Ley’Ork into the current 'Steampunk Age.' They do unethical research sanctioned by the Tàkeau and Vane families, while being funded by the Wrens' illicit businesses, developing advanced magic and technology to keep these families in power.

Ley’ork has a university located in Port, the University of Ley'Ork, known for their school of business and great numebr of alumni in the Harena Trade Union of Cahyali (HTUC). The most talented and coveted entrepreneurs often hail the University of Ley’ork as their alma mater.
