The AQ system as a whole has changed a lot in the past few years, but Mages have changed very little to keep up with it. Many Mage spells, especially in the flagship elemental groups, were clearly written for an older time and a different club playstyle. This project seeks to modernize the spells, keeping the core philosophies of each element while making sure there are no groups that feel useless nor others that are overpowered.

NOTE: It is possible that the sub-backgrounds presented here can be incorporated into Nomad. If necessary, the abilities can be re-tweaked to fit.

A few power fantasies are notably missing from current AQ. This new “half-caster” background presents a fresh way to use spiritual magic, based on the 4-round framework introduced with Troubadour. Included sub-BKDGs include Machinist, a tinkerer and inventor; Vanguard, a Witcher-inspired spellblade; and a new take on Troubadour, the performers we know from Nomad.
