- 247 - Blackwood
-
Blackwood was colonized on 9/20/10055. It consists of one small village. During survey a tree was discovered on Blackwood that yields a very ornate pattern when shaped and polished. The blackwood tree itself is medium height only growing to about 30 feet high. It has a small root system (10' diameter). Instead of growing straight upward it seems to grow in random directions. Its wood looks green until dried. The village on blackwood was setup with the express purpose of locating these trees (they are fairly scarce) and cutting them into standardized pieces for export back to Jaern. The village was also tasked with finding a way to cultivate the plant. The wood, when properly treated, is dark black and has an almost hypnotic whorl pattern instead of standard rings. It quickly became very desirable and very valuable. The world was declared property of Rhine imports and access restricted. Funds from the sales were used to further other colonization efforts.
The largest known lifeform on the planet is a large Ox like creature that stands 12 feet tall at its shoulder. They don't seem aggressive but its seldom that more than one is seen at the same time.
The village was destroyed by Hegemony agents on 7/17/10055. Discoveries made by the investigation team led to the recovery of Dr. Voidberg and some advanced Hegemony Portal technology.
- 307 - Sunspot
-
The world of Sunspot is a new colony world (3/15/10056). The main portal comes out into the village of Brookside (aka Colony One). This is a smallish village surrounded by a wooden wall that has been covered in sharp objects. It is near a large-ish river. Colony Two is upstream about 2 days walking and was completely wiped out around 4/6/10056. Colony Three is to the west into the woods and was originally established to study the local fauna (they engaged in trapping) and was also wiped out around 4/6/10056.
Days and Nights on Sunspot are about twice Jaernian standard.
There are three creatures of note: large semi-intelligent white apes (no verbal language), a small rodent that locals call a tripping squirrel and annoying fish that exist in the river near brookside (they are constantly noisy and if you can understand their language all they say is "jump"... constantly).
It was later discovered that the white apes are territorial but willing to share. The destruction of Colonies Two and Three was done by apes that were possessed by enemies of Jaern. The apes don't actually eat humans or molest them.
- 310 - Falar
-
A former Hegomony alliance world, Jaern convinced them to switch their
alliance on 03/23/10056 in exchange for magical training and defense
against any Hegomony retaliation attacks. The planet itself has little
water, but the people, planets, etc. don't need it to survive. Instead
they rely on magical energy that is contained on the planet. This is
absorbed by plants and animals that eat the plants and this is what
keeps them nourished. The people have begun being taught magic and seem
have an increase proficiency for it. The planet is sparsely populated
and about 30% of it is wasteland and about 30% of it is heavy forests.
Two large cities exist on the planet and many villages exist scattered
throughout. Roads connect the larger villages, but some of the smaller
are fairly isolated from the rest of the population. The planet is
abound with magical planets and creatures and, in fact, the race of
humanoids on the planet itself seem to let off a very gentle glow in
darkness indicating they are also somewhat magical in nature.
The Falarian side of the portal has a secure area due to the Hegomony
interest in the world and is hidden under camouflage in the heavy
forest. Everyone going through the portal is questioned, scanned, and
documented to ensure the defense of the planet and casual travel between
Jaern and Falar is not typically allowed.
