Centralia's Navy Delayed

Leader Prem announced today that plans for the construction of a Centralian Navy have been pushed back. Negotiations with area ship builders are not going well. Shipbuilding is a highly specialized craft and the quality of wood is scarce and only readily available to certain organizations. Alternate sources such as buying ships or hiring mercenary ships may have to be considered. This issue will be brought before the assembly later this week.

"We would love to work with them", says Leader Prem. "They just won't budge. This is vital to their protection as well as out own."

We took a small trip to interview one of the companies bidding on the contract. "Building ships isn't easy... or cheap. We'd like to help Prem, but we also have our families to think about. Tell Prem that we offered a good deal and we won't do him any better regardless of how hard he pressures us."

Leader Prem had already heard this from this particular company and sympathized with their point. "We are all in this together", he said. "And I understand that they do have to look out for their families..."

Assmebly Declares Taxation

In a move that shocked our populace the Assembly, in their first official capacity, decreed that all landowners shall pay a tax to the Assembly of 1000sp/acre of land. Collected monies will go toward paying for the upkeep of the city and the maintenance of our armed forces.

While at first glance this may seem an unprecendented, and even high handed, move, it makes sense if you think for a second. The Lords have traditionally covered this expense. The Lords are the most landed people on our Island. With their absence, others have claimed their lands. Its only fair that they bear the burden of their privelages.

We had a chance to ask Leader Prem what his opinion of the new tax was. "You'll note that they didn't exempt the temples", he chuckled. "Seriously though. These people were chosen because they are visionaries, planners and strategists. Some of the finest minds in our City are on the Assembly. Remember that their choices aren't always going to make people happy. They aren't supposed to. Their decisions are supposed to keep us alive. These men only do the job we asked them to. Its a hard job. I don't envy them."
