Plot Synopsis
Party is asked by Wei to investigate what happened to his father, Zuanshi Haoyu, as he has fallen gravely ill in the past few days. Wei seems incredibly tired. They comfort him, and then go to the Zuanshi estate to see the patient. Tareen determines that the symptoms Haoyu is experiencing appear to be similar to elvesbane, and decides to run some tests to confirm. In the meantime, the party visits a restaurant Haoyu had been to recently: an upscale place called the Pearl Terrace, and gets some samples of the food he had: a caviar dish from the Pearl Terrace's limited-time Jaernian cuisine menu.
Tareen runs tests on both Haoyu's blood sample and the caviar and finds little evidence of any pathogens past a common cold, but does spot a divine element. They decide to go to Jaern to talk to some temples, since Jaernian priests may generally know more about divine effects and be more gathered than the relatively scattered priesthoods of Ruefang. They access a portal within Chongbai's Commission of Trade building and go to Centralia.
In Centralia, the party splits up and asks around at just about every temple in the city, coming up with nothing, though multiple priests concur that Haoyu's symptoms are definitely not elvesbane, as there's no sign of its spreading, and think that it is instead a curse of divine origin someone laid on him. The curse is so nonspecific and vague, though, that the party can't identify which god. Eventually, they all realize that it must be Orus, and find a small group of Orusians around a campfire in the woods outside Centralia. They give several members of party hallucinogens.
Having determined that Orus is the god responsible, the party realizes that Wei's anger and hate at his own father was what cursed him. They head back to Chongbai and take another look at Haoyu, only for the party to fall unconscious one by one. They awake in a strange recreation of Chongbai, centuries and centuries ago during Haoyu's childhood. The place is smoky, like a dream...
